Welcome to the Marittima website! I started the company in August 2019 because I believe we are entering a really exciting time where marine conservation objectives are going to become mainstream business considerations.
Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to work in a range of marine environmental management positions. Starting my own company has given me the flexibility and scope to incorporate many years in maritime emergency response with other relevant experience within broader themes such as fisheries, aquaculture and environmental risk and impact assessment. Starting a company just before a global pandemic also brought with it its own challenges! My thanks to so many colleagues and friends, old and new who have supported me during this time.
Sustainability will continue to rise in profile on the maritime business agenda. The dynamism of the marine environment and the complexity of issues surrounding sustainable use of marine resources and how we define this means that integration of core sustainability principles will need to be systematic and process driven. However, to succeed we will also need to retain flexibility in terms of implementation.
Emergency response operations at sea increasingly need to demonstrate environmental and social stewardship, and the means by which this is communicated presents more of a challenge. One that will only be solved by collaboration.
